There is something astonishing about a slim, lightweight convertible-hybrid laptop that easily slips into your backpack. A versatile and solid build quality which suits any lifestyle. A laptop that flips into action whenever you need it. And most importantly, a 1080 pixel full-HD resolution touch display which furnishes more than sufficient screen room to effortlessly browse for hours without eye fatigues.

That, in brief words, is the mid-range maverick that is the Dell Inspiron 13 5379 2-in-1, with a fully rotatable display. This newly redesigned convertible comes with a wide range of specs and is very affordable with the entry-level model starting at just $499.

Design and build

Dell Inspiron 13 5379 2-in-1 is designed to be compact and lays a lot emphasis on sleek and clean design. It has a 360-degree hinge that essentially enables the device to be flipped and used in four different but comfortable positions: (1) Flip it into Tent mode to work on projects with partners; (2) Stand mode can be utilized to easily watch Netflix with the keyboard facing down; (3) Tablet mode for reading your E-books in an inclined position in the comfort of your home; and last, but certainly not least, (4) Laptop mode. This mode provides the full functionality of a regular notebook, so you can effortlessly write documents and emails.

Inspiron 13 5379 really stands out when it comes to the chassis’ all plastic finish in grey which gives it a premium feel.  However, it does weighs 3.4 pounds and though it’s not the leanest on the market, it only measures 0.8 by 12.8 by 8.8 inches so it can slip into virtually any backpack. As a matter of fact, it feels like slipping a piece of A4 paper into a map when it is adjusted to tablet mode, ensuring that you sacrifice space nor comfort when it comes to carrying it around for an entire day.

Touchpad and keyboard

After opening up the laptop for the first time, your eyes will be drawn to the 4.1 x 3.2 inch highly durable and smooth feeling touchpad. It is equipped with a left and right click button in the bottom part of the touchpad that is separated by a thin black stripe. Though the touchpad takes a bit of pressure to click, it sure provides a precise cursor experience, even up into the peripheral areas of the touchpad.

Dell Inspiron 13 5379 dimention and weight

With the speed at which my fingers were gracing the keyboard, I was able to easily hit 85 words per minute with this charm. It is strange it does not come with a numeric keypad since it is a 13-inch laptop.

Dell Inspiron 13 5379  Performance

The CPU is one of the most exciting features of this laptop, as it utilizes Intel’s new 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8250U quad core processor. This processor should be more than enough to enhance performance over Dell’s previous dual-core processor, in particular when it comes to the use of certain applications.  The battery of the Dell Inspiron 5379 should last up to about eight hours with normal use. And though the battery life does not fall below the average for such laptops, I would have enjoyed a longer lasting battery. Dell Inspiron carries a base speed clock of 1.6Ghz up to 3.4 GHz. It has 8GB RAM but it can be upgraded to 16GB if necessary and it comes with an Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated graphics.

Dell Inspiron 13 5379 Ports and slots

Simply put, a device will deliver an outstanding performance across the board.

To buy or not to buy?

Yes, the Dell Inspiron 13 5379 is a good choice, especially if you are looking for a nicely refined and solid quality laptop that performs in everyday situations. It is a great pick for students and professional, in particular, if you are doing a ton of writing or research and would like a sleek and fast laptop to work on day and night.

Sure, the battery life could be better, but you will enjoy the near premium quality build and excellent performance the Inspiron 13 5379 Series brings to the table. The Intel Core i5 Processor, versatile 2-in-1 design, smooth keyboard, and great touchpad experience ticks a lot of boxes you want in a decent laptop. It won’t break the bank too.
